Here are some links to websites I visit frequently:

Jerry Pournelle's Chaos Manor website carries on where his Byte column left off. Even though the Byte column is now online rather than in paper form, Jerry continues to stimulate and entertain with daily comments on politics, philosophy and other miscellanea as well as computers. Jerry publishes a lot of correspondence from his readers.

Fred Langa is a longtime favourite computer columnist and his twice weekly newsletter is well worth reading. If you need to know how to get the most out of your Windows 95 or 98 machine, Fred can help. A lot!

Fred Langa's award-winning e-newsletter. You'll see how to get LOTS more from your hardware, software, and time online!

Robert Bruce Thompson's daily notes tend toward more technical issues than the eclectic mix at Jerry's. Robert and Jerry are collaborating on a must-have book about computer hardware to be published by O'Reilly.

For the best computer books on the planet, O'Reilly is the place to shop. You can order them from your regular bookstore or on-line. If you are an Outlook power user, Tom Syroid and Bo Leuf's "Outlook in a Nutshell" is a must.

Snarg is the best effort at multimedia art on the web I have seen. You will need the ShockWave plug-in and a decent set of speakers or headphones to make the most of this site. Be prepared to spend a considerable time exploring

Still Waiting for Greenhouse has facts about global warming. Or rather the lack of evidence for it. Some pretty in depth debate and papers from climatologists here. There is an interesting debate about whether scientists should publish on the internet as is happening here. Some contend that only anonymous peer review produces good ideas. I disagree as I have seen ideas beaten into shape by debate among the scientists who post here.

Google is my favourite search engine on the web. I used to use Alta Vista until a search for a Monty Python film script turned up nothing but XXX porn sites. Google nearly always finds what I want in the first 10 hits.

The Register is where I get my daily dose of IT news. Irreverent and rude. Just how I like my news.

For Loving Kindness is writer Suzette Haden Elgin's website. Suzette has written a great short story called Peacetalk 101.

Tim Gadd is a friend of mine and his website is devoted to various aspects of music and poetry, infused with his delightful humour.

For an interesting take on the law in Australia, try the Institute of Taxation Research. This site makes the claim that Australia became a republic in 1920 and that successive governments and lawyers have kept this hidden from the populace ever since. My research seems to indicate that both Canada and New Zealand have the same problem.
