Jonathan Sturm (alias The Pompous Git) lives at Franklin in the Huon Valley of Southern Tasmania, Australia. In recent times, he has been an owner-builder, working on his and his wife's dream home, is currently writing about owner-building and gardening. In times now long past, he was an organic market gardener, but these days contents himself with a home vegetable garden. He is the author of the popular book, Complete Organic Gardening, has written computer, lifestyle and gardening articles for several periodicals, and has published two books by other writers.

After he finished The House of Steel, Jonathan returned briefly to salaried work, but liberated himself in mid 2011, so he could return to his first love: writing.

When quotes for building the 140 square metre (1500 square foot) House of Steel came in at double what was expected, Jonathan figured that the money saved by owner-building was essentially tax-free. Nor did he need to borrow all that extra money and pay interest on it.

Jonathan is married to Marguerite Porte who is a gifted photographer and a wonderful wife.
